B3 conference

On Friday the 8th of May Biosecurity and Training South staff attended the B3 conference at the Christchurch Town Hall. Better Border Biosecurity (B3) is a multi-partner science collaboration that researches ways to reduce the entry and establishment of invasive plant pests, pathogens and weeds in New Zealand.

The conference had a focus on the broader biosecurity community along with key updates from government, industry, and iwi. In particular it was great to hear from MPI Chief Biosecurity Officer Stu Hutchings who gave insight into the NZ Biosecurity Strategy 2023. Stu communicated that the strategy aligns with key principles such as being inclusive and enduring, have clear outcomes that can be measured and being flexible and sustainable.

B3 connects NZ’s dedicated biosecurity community consisting of scientists, industry and government regulatory bodies, community groups, and individuals. We look forward to the next NZBI conference.
