Our Biosecurity Advisors and Trainers attended the Biosecurity/Biodiversity Mini Education Training Seminar (METS) this week in Rangiora, organized by the New Zealand Biosecurity Institute.
The seminar was a great opportunity for our trainers to connect with the people working within the biosecurity sector and gain a better understanding of the kinds of work that these organizations coordinate to protect New Zealand from invasive pests and diseases.
The topics covered included:
· Pine/willow, weed and pest control methods managed by Environment Canterbury,
· Feral cat management – Department of Conservation
· The role of MPI Border Clearance Services - protecting our border.
· Vertebrate pests detected post border.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day, and illustrated the wide and varied nature of biosecurity organizations in our country, from pre-border with MPI through to controlling pests and diseases already established here, like willows and cats.
