Biosecurity and Training South had the privilege of attending the Biosecurity Business Pledge Leaders Forum in Queenstown to mark the end of the Biosecurity Awareness Month in August. We were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the systems that protect New Zealand at Queenstown airport. On the way to the forum, we also heard from Ben Teele of the Arrowtown Choppers community group about the challenge of wilding conifers in the area. The forum panel discussion brought together three biosecurity perspectives from across Stuart Anderson, the deputy director-general of Biosecurity New Zealand, Todd Grace, the chief of aviation and customers at Queenstown Airport, and Tim Towers who is a biosecurity advisor from New Zealand Winegrowers. The discussion was very interesting, exploring the particular biosecurity risks facing the Central Otago region and the importance of business leadership in managing those risks.
The Biosecurity Business Pledge have also released new procurement guidance for NZ businesses to minimise biosecurity risks. Feel free download the guidance here.
